Description de l’Egypte (public domain)

Posted in Uncategorized on September 7, 2010 by otway

This is not bad but I’d really love to have the line detail of this wonderful engraving. I’ve seen it in details but not as a whole .

I’ve been reading “MIRAGE Napoleon’s Scientists and the Unveiling of Egypt” by Nian Burleigh which is brilliant and have been looking for a large intact version of this engraving. Since the book “Description de lEgypte” has long been in the public domain, you’d think this would be less of a chore.

Another great engraving 50 years ahead of the French.

Image: “F.L. Norden. Travels in Egypt and Nubia, 1757. Plate 47, Profil de la tête colossale du Sphinx.”, 1757. Printed material. Brooklyn Museum. (N370.405_N75t_Norden_Travels_pl47_Sphinx_profile.jpg) Rights Statement: No none copyright restrictions.

Wish I had a picture of the Allen Marcuci sphinx that looked like a Zap Comix sculpture.

Monkeying around with OP photos and art. I had this ghost lady on the mind a couple of weeks ago. Hope this is ok?

Hummingbird (not)

Posted in Uncategorized on September 2, 2010 by otway

I think maybe Jude had mentioned about the moth that looks like a hummingbird? I saw both in the mountains last week and my camera doesn’t do that well with that much motion, but I tried. The visitor’s station at moomaw dam had about 6 feeders loaded with the cool little birds. Hummingbirds sorta talk to you, it was too cool. It sorta sounded like when cats chatter at birds while looking thru a window at them (trying to lure them I suppose).
