Found with a “google” search of “weird Virginia” which also recommended a visit to the DEA museum that has a full size replica of a crack house and dioramas depicting the well known
horrors of marijuana addiction. Forget Williamsburg, Jamestown and the DC Monuments, the DEA museum is a “must see” for all responsible parents with children.

Who said, “Give me a place to stand and I will move the world”?
You don’t need a lever to move a kugel nor must you be Atlas,
or Charles Atlas , you remember those ads from the 60′s in “Boys Life”, “Don’t be a ninety pound weakling and let the beach bully kick sand in your face! In just seven days, I can make you a man! Then you can bully the other wimps!” 12.95$ including shipping and handling, satisfaction guranteed!.

The spherical black Kugel pictured here was produced in Germany to a tolerance of just a few thousands of an inch. It was/is a world record sized machined stone sphere. After abut 6 months in service, though, it started to crack and had to be shut down for safety reasons. After some deliberation, the general consensus was that the black stone had absorbed too much heat in the hot Virginia Sun, causing it to crack. Since it was still under warranty, the vendor had to machine another world record sized kugel to match it, this time in a light gray colored stone. Whoops. There goes the profit margin.

Did they let you take the old Kugel home? It would make a nice garden ornament.

They “planted” it behind the museum
