Wicked cool

“Wicked” came to the Landmark this week for 24 performances. See it — it’s sold out (Biggie K got tickets early), but there’s a daily ticket lottery. Awe-inspiring high-tech stage magic at its best, union all the way. Very challenging follow-spot work…
Above pics are from Richmond.com. More shots of the load-in, and some video.

…wondered if you were working that show when I saw it on the news tonight. “Union all the way”

Does this one have Kristen Chenowith?
What a voice! What a personality and stage prescence in such a beautiful little package! From the moment I saw her walk onto a stage, I was in love. I adore her.

BigK just called me from Landmark during intermission. Says it is awesome!
Marcie Dodd is playing lead.
I digg Miss Squatty-pop Kristen Chenowith also!

The performances were crazy good, as good as any I’ve seen in NY. The sets were ellaborate and the story compelling. Made me a little proud of Richmond to have something that nice.

Glad you had a good time, K. Richmond should be indeed be proud to be able to host this giant show — at some cost in terms of improvement to the Landmark, which will open the path to other massive Broadway touring productions.
Richmond should also be proud to have a 108-year-old stagehands union with the skills to set this puppy up in two and a half days, then assist the road crew backstage in running the show.
There are five spots, four run by local hands without a chance to rehearse the continuous stream of fast-paced, tricky moves before the first show. The principals are mostly lit by spotlight, with the gazillion other lights providing general and atmospheric lighting.
“Spot 4, stand by to pick up so-and-so in the red hat entering up left, 60% full body; Spot 5, stand by to go out on a three-count and auto-follow to whats-her-name in the pink dress down right; Spot 3, stand by to iris in to head; Spot 2, shift to frame 6 and stand by to pick up whosis swinging in on a rope down left, 75% waist… All spots, Go!”
