Nude art in the naked city

NYT: Nude window display turns heads at NY gallery

“The truth is, even the cops like looking at naked people.”

  1. I wonder how this story may have played out differently if the person in the window was a man and not a beautiful young woman. Instead of coming by for a little “look see” the NYPD would have wrestled the model to the ground, cuffed and pepper sprayed him and hustled him to the station house to face sex offender charges. There are many instances across America in which a young man went skinny dipping (something most of us did routinely when we were young and I still do in the privacy of my pool) and happened to be seen by a child who’s parents filed charges. The “perp” is convicted and is put through the same legal wringer applied to child molesters, jail time, fines, forced therapy, not being able to see their own children, being publicly outed and ostrazied by their community and being forced to register as a sex offender for the rest of their lives on pain of prison.
I would not ordinarily write this next part to you but in a strange co-incidence I recieved a letter today with no return address. Inside were court documents concerning a neighbor and friend of mine. It seems this fellow got deferred adjucdication for allegedly inappropriate behaivior with his neighbor’s daughter, age 13, in 1999. The girl and her mother were changing the dressing of the man’s recent lower back surgery on alternate days and in the process the man exposed himself. One of the documents enclosed was the man’s own succesful petition to expunge the “conviction/ deferred adjudication”. Was this letter sent by some “good Samaritan” informing the neighbors of the proximity of a sex offender? I don’t think so, in fact there was no explanatory letter enclosed, just copies of the documents still in the public record. It was sent to discredit and villify the guy who is our block captain in the Crime Watch, has served on two civic boards and is planning to run for a seat on the City Council. Some parties who don’t want him on the Council have evidentally hired a private investigator to dig up some dirt on him and they hit the jackpot. Whoever did this, they must have spent thousands in the effort but don’t have the balls to identify themselves.
I can think of a few with the wherewithal, motivation and cunning to do this and they don’t have the citizen’s best interests at heart or give a rat’s ass if our children are protected from evil. What they want is the power they once held and with it the long term financial rewards that development deals and civic contracts can provide.
I wish I could stand up for this guy but I know my efforts would only make things worse and who wants to appear to be defending a child molester?
Welcome to local Texas politics. I began to feel disillusioned several years ago so for this reason and others I resigned my seat in mid 2009.
I didn’t mean to go on about this but the package I got in the mail today has a bad odor and there are few I can vent this with.
    Thanks
